Publishing Variables to Figma

Publish to Figma pushes your Token Designer tokens into a Figma file as Figma variables. Once that's done, designers can apply them to any element using Figma's variable picker.

How to do it

  1. Open the Figma file you want to publish into
  2. Open the Token Designer plugin
  3. Find the project you want to publish
  4. Click Publish to Figma

The plugin creates Figma variables from your tokens in the current file. If variables with the same names already exist, they get updated with the new values.

Themes become modes

If your project has multiple contexts (default, light, dark, etc.), each one gets published as a separate Figma variable mode. Designers can then switch between modes in Figma the same way you switch themes in Token Designer.

Publish limits

Each publish uses one of your monthly syncs. Free plan accounts have a cap. Upgrade to Pro for unlimited.

Keeping things in sync

After publishing, your tokens are live in Figma. If you update values in Token Designer and publish again, the Figma variables update to match. There's no manual step to reconcile them.
