AI Assistant

There's a built-in AI assistant in Token Designer that lives in a panel on the left side of the app. You can chat with it to create tokens, update values, reorganize groups, or get suggestions while working through the Design Guides.

Opening it

Click the sparkle icon in the toolbar. You'll see a welcome message and a chat input at the bottom. Click the X to close it.

The chat input

Type your request in the input at the bottom of the panel. Press Enter or click the send button to submit. Use Shift + Enter if you need a new line.

The number next to the sparkle icon (something like 372k of 3.5m) shows how much of the context window is in use for the current session. You don't need to worry about this most of the time.

Group vs Global

There's a small button to the left of the context counter that controls what the AI has access to:

ScopeWhat it does
GroupThe AI works with the tokens in the currently open group only.
Global (beta)The AI can see and modify tokens across your entire project.

Group is the default. Use it for focused work on a specific set of tokens. Switch to Global when you need the AI to see the whole picture or make changes that span multiple groups.

What it can actually do

It adapts based on where you are. In the token editor, it can read your tokens, create new ones, update values, and reorganize things. In the Design Guides, it can suggest color palettes, font pairings, and type scale options. You can also just ask it questions about your tokens if you want to understand what's there before making changes.
